Running on Zero

I saw it written down that this can do 5-10 seconds, but as far as I can see, it cannot do ten second clips, cannot do nine second clips. Does it only do five second clips? I can only get it to work now by bringing in a five second clip and trimming it down to four, like. I've wasted a day and a half's allowance on it trying to figure out why it won't work already.
