Hi,
I noticed that the layer soil temperature field contains values over water surfaces as well. Should we mask those values before modelling, or simply retain the full field?

Hi,
Yes the soil temperature field does containsvalues over water surfaces, in that situation it is close to SST.
This is expected by the model so you should retain the full fields.
